Hopper App Review – Is It Worth Using For Travel Savings?
What is the Hopper App, and how can you use it to save money on your next trip? Regardless of whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, the Hopper app is the service you need to be using to book flights, plan vacations, and make changes to your itinerary with all the major airlines out there.
In this Hopper App review, we’ll tell you everything you need to know, from Hopper customer service to how Hopper predicts prices – so you can save money and enjoy a more stress-free trip.
Let’s dive in!
What is the Hopper App?
Who doesn’t love getting the best prices on flights, hotels, and car rentals?
There are lots of ways you can go about getting cheaper airfare, from flying only on certain days of the week, booking round trip airfare, or investing in a credit card with travel rewards.
Unfortunately, many of these so-called ways to save come with hidden fees and fine print that make it a hassle just to use them. That’s not the case with the Hopper app.
This app was launched in 2009 with the goal of predicting the best time to fly so that you could find the most affordable airfare for a given trip. Enter in your information about when and where you’d like to fly, and the app will give you information on the best times to book.
The Hopper app uses proprietary algorithms and artificial intelligence to make key price predictions. These can be accurate at a rate of 95% for up to a year in advance!
Hopper works with most major US airlines, including United Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and more. It also works with international airlines like Air Canada, Air France, Air Transat, British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, and more.
You can book a flight through the app, using its secure payment system to make your reservation. You can even add a credit card and booking details to make your life easier – or set booking push notifications so that you can get updates whenever prices change.
How to Use the Hopper Mobile App
To use the Hopper app, you’ll have to download it first. You can install the app on the Play Store or the App Store, since it’s available for both iOS and Android.
Just head over there, search for “Hopper,” and click “Install.” It’s a free app, so you don’t have to pay anything to get it on your phone.
Once you have created an account and logged in, you can search for flight information. Choose a departing airport, a destination, and how many travelers will be going on the trip. Once you select your destination, you’ll see a calendar listing of color-coded fares, with green being the least expensive option.
Then, you can sift through dates and flights that are available. You’ll get the current lowest price available as well as an idea of whether this is a good price or if you should wait to book.
It’s not just accurate predictions of the best booking times with Hopper flights, either. You can also get refund options in case you need to cancel a reservation, checked bag options, and more.
In addition to using Hopper to get the best deal on departure and return flight prices, you can also use it for things besides air travel. It is one of the best apps out there for getting the best deals on hotel room bookings, car rentals, and more.
Does Hopper Charge a Fee?
Hopper is totally free to use. However, there are ways you can save even more by using the Hopper app.
One is by booking with your credit card. Hopper partners with Chase Ultimate Rewards so that you can get even better prices. If you have enough saved up from previous trips, you can also use your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to pay for your flights. You’ll get additional rewards points for booking, too.
Not only that, but you can save extra money when you book Lyft rides, eligible dining, grocery purchases, and more. There are travel, car rental, and purchase protection options too.
While the Hopper app itself is free, you can choose to add a $5 tip for each purchase, or you can add coverage that will allow you to receive a refund (typically just a partial refund) if you need to cancel your trip for whatever reason.
Hopper App Customer Service
If you need to contact Hopper for any reason, you shouldn’t have trouble doing it. While some customers state that they have trouble reaching the support team, there are a few ways you can reach out, including by phone and by chat.
You can also get in touch directly with the Price Freeze team, if necessary, for questions related to Price Freeze features in particular.
Hopper App Reviews
Reading as many Hopper app review posts as possible, both positive and negative, is the best way to get an idea about whether this app is right for you.
Some of the biggest highlights of Hopper features are the ability to use the app anywhere around the world. It offers insider trip insights to help you make better purchases, too. It analyzes a variety of flights and gives you custom predictions, so it’s easy to find the best rates.
However, more than one Hopper app review mentions issues with customer service.
One Sitejabber reviewer writes: “Never again taking advice from a friend who recommended this darn awful bunny hopping bs! I had entered all my information, scheduled my flight, and hit enter. Seconds later, I was informed with an apology, “Sorry something went wrong, please try again,” which I did, but the problem happened again. I checked with my bank, and found out I was charged. I tried to contact Hopper’s customer service but kept directing me to their website with a list of what answers to whatever questions or problems one has.”
Another writes: “I booked a flight from New Orleans to Hartford July 7th. After I booked the flight, I had a total of 7 hrs of layover in Florida, and you don’t see your itinerary until after you’ve booked it, I paid 65 twice for a price freeze. All this within 20 minutes, $65 x2 + 257 for flight, and I canceled and booked directly with airlines July 7th. I have not received my refund, and their answer is we will get back in 24 hrs. Hopper is a scam!”
However, there are also thousands of positive reviews to note. In fact, on Sitejabber, you’ll find that the vast majority are favorable (more than half are three stars or higher). Reviewers say things like: “I’ve been looking at flight tickets recently because I’m planning some travels for the next few months. I heard about hoppers somewhere on the internet (i forgot) but decided to give it a try. It turns out, this is now my favorite BOOKING FLIGHTS APP”
…as well as: “First time using, excited that we were able to quickly get signed up and make flights for 5 of us for a future family vacation. Total of 13 of us are going after all of the world settles down. Can’t wait! Thanks Hopper!”
Moral of the story? Read as many Hopper reviews as you can, but take each one with a grain of salt – and consider giving this app a try.
Should You Use Hopper Over Other Travel Sites?
If you’re trying to decide which app you should use to book your flights, Hopper is not the only way. There are other apps and websites to consider, too.
Hopper vs. Trivago
Like Hopper, Trivago is a metasearch engine that provides you with an easy calendar view of the most and least expensive days to book your flight. However, the featured price isn’t always the lowest, so you’ll need to pay close attention to make sure you’re getting the best rate.
Also, there’s no rewards program as there is via the Hopper and Chase partnership -and the best price that’s often listed is frequently sold out by the time you click through.
Hopper vs. Hotwire
Hotwire has been around for a long time, and it’s a go-to for many people who are booking their flights.
If you’re looking to book a hotel instead of a flight, Hotwire is probably the way to go. Although Hopper does work with hotels, Hotwire has a more extensive reach and so it can be easier to save money. You can also bundle deals via vacation packages, an option that isn’t available on Hopper.
Hopper vs. Google Flights
Again, Google Flights will show you all the flights that are available, but you won’t be booking flights directly through Google Flights – just looking to see what’s there. There are often hidden fees and conditions that you can’t really get around here.
Plus, Google won’t always highlight the best possible rate, and there’s no way to get alerts for your flight when the best price is actually available. Hopper is the winner here too!
Hopper vs. Expedia
Expedia, like Hotwire, is another classic travel booking site that has been around for quite some time. A major benefit of using Expedia is that it has its own reward programs you can use. This program isn’t the most extensive when it comes to flights, so again, Hopper is probably a better option – however, hotel bookings will give you a great earning rate.
Is the Hopper App Trustworthy?
The Hopper app has been around since 2009, and although not every single Hopper app review is positive, there are lots of reasons to consider booking with this service.
Not only can you book flights at the lowest rates, but you can set up push notifications, so you know you’re always getting the best possible price. Give it a try today!
