What Are The Best Local Selling Apps?

If you are looking to get rid of some old stuff that you no longer need and would prefer to meet up with people locally to avoid having to deal with shipping, there are apps for this. The three best apps to sell locally are LetGo, Craigslist CPlus, and NextDoor. Read on for more details.

LetGo

LetGo is one of the largest and quickest-growing apps for buying and selling items locally. The app has over 100 million downloads! It’s also simple to use. All you have to do is take a photo of what you want to sell and list it on the app. Then, buyers can reach out to you about your offer. They make this process even more straightforward with their automated chat responses.

Additionally, LetGo allows you to categorize what you are selling, making it easier for buyers to find your stuff.

Buyers and sellers receive ratings and reviews, making it easier for you, the seller, to sell to legitimate buyers and not scammers.

The best part about using the LetGo app is that there are no fees to list your items, and LetGo doesn’t charge a commission fee for your sales either! That means more money in your pocket!

With that said, there are certain precautions you should take when using the app to avoid scammers. Click here for more guidelines on that.

Craigslist CPlus

Craigslist functions as a classified ads website and has been around since 1995. A third party runs the CPlus app, but it is the highest-rated selling app on iTunes. It is important to note that the app does tend to glitch.

One of the main functions of Craigslist is to sell items to people nearby. Additionally, the benefit of Craigslist CPlus is that Craigslist has been around for 25 years. Therefore, you’ll already have access to a massive user base because of how long Craigslist has been around.

Additionally, the app allows users to flag fraudulent listings as spam, which gives both buyers and sellers more peace of mind. You should still be cautious when selling locally and follow the same safety precautions you would use with any selling app.

Craigslist CPlus is also free to use.

NextDoor

This app was created explicitly as a social network for neighborhoods. However, NextDoor also has a “For Sale and Free” portion of the app. Therefore, it’s an excellent method for selling locally.

To post a listing, click the plus sign at the bottom of the screen. Then, create a new message and click “For Sale and Free.” Then, upload photos of the item and input the required information, including price and description.

As with other apps, people using the app can search for items on sale. What makes NextDoor more unique is that your items will appear on the newsfeed of your connections, even if they aren’t specifically looking to buy something. This gives your items more exposure and, therefore, a higher chance of completing a sale.

NextDoor is another app that is free to use.

What Are The Best Apps to Sell Stuff Nationwide?

If you would rather have access to a larger pool of buyers and don’t want to have to meet people in person, you do have options for apps that provide shipping. The best apps to sell stuff nationwide are Decluttr, Facebook Marketplace, and OfferUp.

DeCluttr

If you want to Declutter your home quickly, give Decluttr a shot. Decluttr is perfect for the seller that doesn’t want to wait around for a buyer to bite.

Decluttr allows you to ship immediately and with free postage. Additionally, what makes Declutter stand out is that you’ll receive a valuation on the items you want to sell. The average payout to the 6 million people DeClutter has paid has been around $50 a person.

The only thing that does make using this app a bit more difficult is that you need to be accurate and truthful about the quality of what you plan to sell. If the buyer deems that the item condition is worse than what you said, you’ll get paid less.

While DeCluttr is a great way to make some quick side cash, you are limited in what you can sell. The app specializes in used tech and media items. You can also sell toys and textbooks. So if you are looking to sell anything like cell phones, tablets, CDS, and DVDs, Decluttr is the app for you.

Facebook Marketplace

While Facebook Marketplace is also great for selling locally, you do have the option to ship nationwide. This is one of the best apps for selling nationwide because Facebook has a considerable user base (2.50 billion). That means you get a massive potential consumer base right off the bat. As long as you aren’t new to Facebook, you can use Facebook Marketplace. It’s simple to use, and the categories help people to find your items quickly.

When using the shipping option, Facebook does take a 5% commission on sales that you make or a $0.40 minimum per order. Once you have marked your item as shipped and have entered a tracking number, you will receive your payout from Facebook in 15-20 days. Learn more about Facebook selling with our guide on how to sell stuff on Facebook.

OfferUp

OfferUp is very similar to LetGo, and depending on where you live, one may be more popular than another in your area (if you are trying to sell locally). And just like LetGo and Facebook Marketplace, you can sell a variety of items that are categorized. So if you want to sell anything from furniture to clothes to appliances to books and more, OfferUp is an excellent option for you.

What makes OfferUp stand out in comparison to LetGo is that they offer a shipping option now. By using their shipping option, LetGo will collect the money from the client and pay you two days after they have received the merchandise if the buyer has not evaluated it by then.

The one major disadvantage is that the service fee they charge is a lot higher than Facebook’s. The service fee is 12.9% of the sale or a minimum of $1.99. If you can get a substantially higher bid on OfferUp than Facebook Marketplace, it might be worth it to ship through OfferUp.

Remember, you can always list your items on more than one app to see where you get the highest bidder.

What Are The Best Apps To Sell Clothes?

If you are explicitly trying to clean out your closet, you may want to go with an app that is dedicated to this. The three best apps to sell your clothes are Poshmark, Tradesy, and ThredUp.

Best Apps To Sell Clothes

Poshmark

Poshmark is a highly popular app for selling clothes. The app boasts 50 million active users! The clothing you can sell includes men’s fashion, women’s fashion, kid’s fashion, handbags, jewelry, and shoes. You also have the option of selling old or new clothes.

What makes Poshmark so useful is its social media approach to selling. Users are encouraged and rewarded for sharing each other’s posts, so their listings can rank higher on the listings page. With enough sharing of listings (both yours and others), you can become a Posh ambassador. When you become a Posh ambassador, Poshmark will advertise your “closet” for you!

The app also has a community vibe where you can gain followers that continually go to your “closet” to purchase from you time and time again. It’s a way to achieve customer loyalty without actually having your own brand of clothing. If you have a particular style that you sell and that your followers like, your followers will know to look out for the clothes that you sell, specifically.

The app is easy to use and, as with other top-selling apps, only requires you to take photos of the items you want to sell and include a description.

Poshmark also makes the shipping process extremely easy. The company will provide you with a prepaid shipping label that you can print and ship in a flat-rate envelope or box. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about weighing the merchandise or selecting shipping. The shipping is free for you because Poshmark buyers are the ones who pay for it.

However, Poshmark does charge a flat fee of $2.95 on sales under $15, and 20% for transactions that are $15 and up.

Tradesy

Tradesy is another clothing selling app that makes it easy to list your items. Once again, all you have to do is upload a few photos and input the necessary information.

Tradesy further enhances the selling experience by also offering a suggested price for you. They base this on what similar items have sold for in the past, the condition, and the brand. That way, you don’t have to do the research yourself.

Tradesy also will provide you with a prepaid shipping label after you’ve sold your items. Again, the buyer pays for shipping. In terms of fees, Tradesy takes a flat commission of $7.50 for sales less than $50, and 19.8% on purchases over $50.

ThredUp

If you are a fan of consignment stores but don’t want to leave your house, ThredUp is the app for you.

ThredUp is different from other selling apps. This is because you don’t need to be the one to list your items. Instead, you will need to send a “selling kit” to ThredUp. They will sell your second-hand clothes for you.

You will have to either print out a free shipping label and ship your old clothes using any box. Or ThredUp will send you a bag that you can put your clothes in and ship to them. Waiting for a bag can take up to 2 weeks.

They only accept about 40% of items in the average selling kit, so they are looking for second-hand items that are seasonal, brand-name, and in excellent condition. “Value and Mall Brands” are listed for 60 days. “Premium and Designer Brands” are listed for 90 days.

Once ThredUp processes your “selling kit,” you can take an upfront payment based on their valuation of the clothes, or you can make money by consignment of your items.

If you go with the consignment option, you will have to wait 60-90 days to see if ThredUp can sell your items. Doing this is more of a gamble, but you can usually make more money this way. However, it typically isn’t much more, so for the amount you need to wait, it might be better to take the upfront payment if you want your money quickly.

What Are The Best Apps To Sell Big-Ticket Items?

There are other options for you if you want to sell a big-ticket item and aren’t finding luck getting the price you want on other apps. The best apps to sell big-ticket items are eBay, CarGurus, and Charish.

eBay

eBay was founded in 1995 and currently has 182 million users worldwide. You do need to pay a high commission (20%) for selling on their platform, though (you pay both eBay and PayPal for the sales you make). Nowadays, there are plenty of apps where you can list and sell your items for free. However, if you have a big-ticket item, eBay might still be your best bet.

One advantage of using eBay is that it gives you access to people from a wider variety of locations, while many other apps only function in major US cities.

With eBay, you can do a fixed-price listing as well, but they are well-known for their auction setting. All you have to do is upload the listing as well as set the length of the auction and a starting bid.

Once the auction ends, you are contractually obliged to sell the item to the winning bidder.

eBay is an excellent option for those trying to sell items that are worth millions of dollars like Yachts or jet planes. For payment, you have the option of PayPal, credit/debit card, merchant credit/debit card, or payment during pickup (if the buyer is picking up the item in person).

Apps For Selling Big Ticket Items

CarGurus

While many of the apps mentioned previously allow you to sell cars, CarGurus is an app specifically for buying and selling cars.

CarGurus will provide you with a price analysis that provides the market value of your car and a dealer trade-in estimate. They base this estimate on the description you provide. CarGurus will even let you know if they think your car listing is overpriced or underpriced. You can also see the best-priced deal in your area to get an idea of how quickly your car will sell.

With its variety of tools and deal analyzers, CarGurus is dedicated to helping you sell your car.

The best part is that it is free to list your car!

Charish

While you can sell your old and used furniture on various apps, Charish is useful for those who want to sell high-quality or vintage furniture.

Charish attracts a different kind of buyer (one who is willing to pay more). Charish isn’t for the bargain hunter or thrift-shopper. Therefore, if you have a piece of furniture that you know is worth a pretty penny, give Charish a shot.

Just know that there is a 20% commission on your sales. If you can sell your furniture for significantly more on Charish than other apps that don’t charge to list, it would be worth it to use Charish.
